Quranic Concept
Shirk is a particular Quranic term have much significance in the life of human being.Anyone if, persistently carry the same state of mind till death certainly face regression, lose self respect in this life and stagnation in the eternal life after death (Ultimate manifestation of the results of deeds). He (his self) will never be promoted step by step towards infinity.According to Quran it means:
- To consider non godly things as Allah's contemporary
- To consider others also have same powers and authority as Allah has.
- To consider man-made laws equivalent to Allah's laws.
- To accept the right of services to others where service to Allah should be acknowledged.
- To deny that everything in the universe subservient to humans.
- To deny that all humans are not equal innately and instinctively.
- To consider anything superior to mankind other than Allah. ( its an insult to human)
Such consideration certainly does not affect divinity of Allah but on the contrary humans fall down from the pedestal of humanness. Allah out of His fathomless mercy bestowed human being a unique highly respectable stature in the universe and does not expect his degradation by indulging in "Shirk" Therefore, Quran declare it as the greatest crime/sin which is not forgivable if carry till death.
Shirk is greatest Zulm (31:13)
"Zulm" means " not to put something on its rightly deserved justified place/position may be by increasing /decreasing from its actual deserving place to create imbalance (Raghib, TaJ) While (Ibn-e -Faris ) said that it also means " darkness and transgression". here in the context of shirk may be taken as to consider celestial bodies, natural manifestation and certain humans on an elevated place than they deserve is Shirk.31:13 Luqman, enlightening his son, said this to him, "O My dear son! Never associate anyone with Allah, for, assigning ‘partners’ to Him is a tremendous wrong.”(Shabbir Ahmed)
Shirk is a lie against one's self (6:23-24)
At that time, they will be able to employ no subterfuge and perforce will have to say “We swear by Allah that He is our Rabb and we never associated any authority with Him.” Behold! how these people will lie against themselves, and those whom they have associated with Allah will desert them. (exposition)

Turn to Allah alone, associating none with Him. For whoever ascribes partners to Allah, it is as if he has fallen from the sky and the birds snatch him or the wind blows him to far-off places. (Shabbir Ahmed)
Sectarianism is Shirk (30:31-32)
Turn to Him alone then, and be mindful of Him, and establish the Divine System and be not of those who ascribe ‘partners’ to Him, From those who have divided their system and become sects, each group is happy with what it has.(Shabbir Ahmed) Exposition: What is this system?
it is a way of life prescribed by Allah. Prerequisite to achieve this system is to establish system of "Salat" (wherein everyone follows His Laws according to one’s own free will). In this obedience and following, do not include anyone else’s laws or decisions. This will create uniformity of thought and action amongst yourselves and, as such, all humanity will become one Ummah; thereby overcoming all the differences (2:213). This is the very objective of Deen.Accordingly, after becoming the upholders of the principle of Tauheed, you should remain extremely careful not to indulge in 'shirk'. You should not be amongst those who break the unity of their Deen and who instead of remaining one entity, get split into various sects. After people split into sects, every group thinks it is on the path of truth and is therefore content with its own way. Remember getting split into sects or factions amounts to shirk. Never fall prey to it. (3:104; 6:160; 23:53; 42:13)
Falters, out of ignorance may be protected from ill-consequences if repents but Shirk is unforgivable crime/sin (4:48)

Do you not see that to Allah submits everyone in the heavens and everyone on earth? And the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees - and all kinds of living beings that crawl on their belly, walk on two or four feet, or fly - and many of the human beings submit to Him. But there are numerous human beings who incur retribution. Whoever disgraces himself according to Allah’s law, for him, there is none that can raise him to honor. Allah has control over all things and events and He does everything according to His laws. (Shabbir Ahmed)
Making one's uncontrollable urge/unhindered emotions, god beside Allah is Shirk. (45:23)

Belief in Trinity and Allah has offspring is Shirk (4:171,5:73,21:26)
21:26 And some say, “The Beneficent has taken to Himself a son. Glory to Him! They are but servants raised in honor. 4:171:O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion. Say nothing about Allah except the truth. The Messiah Jesus son of Mary was a Messenger of Allah, the fulfillment of His Word to Mary, created according to the laws of creation and given free will from the Divine Energy (like all human beings 15:29, 32:7-9, 38:72). Believe in Allah and His Messengers, and say not: “Three". Cease! It is for your own good. Allah is but One Allah. Far removed it is from His Supreme Majesty that He should have a son. Everything in the Highs and everything in the Lows belongs to Him. Allah is enough as a Trustee (of the Universe) 5:73:And certainly they disbelieve who say that Allah is one of three (in a Trinity) when there is no god whatsoever but the One Allah. Unless they desist from saying what they say, grievous suffering is bound to befall such of them who oppose the truth. ( Shabbir Ahmed)
